Saint Philip of Jesus. Feast day, February 5. Died 1597. A native of Mexico City, he became a Franciscan, left the order, traveled to the Philippines as a mercahnt, rejoined the Franciscans, shipwrecked in Japan, and was martyred by being tied to a cross and pierced with two lances. The two lances are the distinguishing characteristics of the bulto. He is a good antiode for michevous children.
Size: 20 1/2" high X 16" wide X 9" deep. Can be hung or placed on table top.
Medium: Bulto carved from ponderosa pine wood. Painted with gesso, natural pigments, and acrylic watercolors. Sealed. Nicho is handcarved pine also.
